The last, but certainly not least, home left at The Porches…

Through the last few months of uncertainty, one thing has become abundantly clear… the mountains provide the perfect escape. Whether for a long weekend or forever, there is no better time to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and plant roots in the Yampa Valley. As so many of us realize that we can connect and work from anywhere in the world, it begs the question, why not do so from paradise?

At The Porches, our 16 acre private neighborhood is just the paradise you are looking for, unlike any other you will find at the base of a ski mountain. From our quality craftsmanship to our outstanding services and amenities, The Porches exceeds expectations in every way. Our dedicated staff goes above and beyond to care for your home in your absence and welcome you home when you return.

It is because of the unparalleled experience offered at The Porches that ownership opportunities won’t last long. Over the summer months we have been thrilled to welcome four new whole owners and several new fractional owners to our Porches family.

2115 Indian Summer Dr.

Introducing the last home in our inventory, a stunning 5,000 square foot 4 bedroom home, that won’t last long!

A prime location on the property, this home is located just across the street from the Barn. Stroll across the street to enjoy a relaxing soak in the hot tub, take a dip in the pool, get in a work out at the gym, or just grab a cup of coffee.

If proximity to the Barn were not enough, this home also features unobstructed mountain views. Step inside to an open floor plan featuring vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, and a beautiful ranch stone fireplace. A built in breakfast nook just off the kitchen is the perfect place to read the local newspaper and ease into the day.

The coveted main level master has its own stone fireplace, large windows looking at the mountain, and an expansive master bath.

Head upstairs to find two bedrooms and an office each with an en suite bath along with a lovely sitting area, the ideal place to cozy up and take in the views.

In the expansive lower level, you’ll find a built in bar, powder room, large storage room, as well as the fourth bedroom also with its own en suite bath.

This home also features a heated two car garage to store all of your Steamboat necessities, and both a main level and upper level porch. Whether you want to sit inside or outside you don’t have to go far in the home to sit back, relax, and take in the beauty of the Yampa Valley.

How a family recommendation led this family to their heaven on Earth…

For this Texas family, Steamboat, and The Porches, has become their home away from home. After staying at The Porches as rental guests for many years, Scott and Dena took the leap and purchased a fractional share. Now, several years down the road, they’ve been able to host many friends in their Steamboat home.

As with each of our owners, it has been such a wonderful experience to see their family grow over the years and to share in their love of Steamboat. We continually look forward to hearing about their latest adventures as they discover more and more about what the Yampa Valley has to offer.

Tell us about your family:
We are a family of 4 from Houston; my husband and I have two teenage boys. We started coming to Steamboat 12 to 13 years ago. Our boys were just toddlers when they learned to ski on the mountain and from there, they spent many weeks in ski school on the mountain! We fell in love and can’t wait to get back as often as possible. My husband and I do take his and hers trips with friends; one of us enjoys the cool fall air as well.

What brought you to Steamboat?

Skiing is what initially drew us to Steamboat; we had heard that the ski school in Steamboat was the best. We also have family that spend a lot of time in Steamboat and encouraged us to visit.

What do you love about having a home in Steamboat?

We love the fresh air, the skiing, the hiking in the fall and the general down to earth feel of Steamboat. You can go to dinner in your ski boots if you want – no one will judge you!

When we aren’t skiing, we enjoy snowmobiling and hiking. Most recently we tried dog sledding and ice fishing both on a lake as well as fly fishing the river – which were awesome experiences.

How did you find The Porches?

Once again, a family member had recommended The Porches to us; we visited for a number of years before becoming fractional owners.

What do you enjoy about the Porches experience so far?

I am ready to live here year-round! It is awesome… we love the staff, the impeccably kept grounds and just the way the houses are maintained! We feel it’s a piece of heaven on earth.

Recommendations:
Favorite restaurants: Salt and Lime, Besame’ (especially the drink menu), Table 79 and the Truffle Pig after a day of skiing.

Favorite hikes or trails: Fish Creek Falls of course and we love to just hike up the mountain in the fall. I also love to run along the Yampa River Core Trail when I am training.

Pedaling for a purpose with STARS

Though this year has been difficult for each of us, having more downtime has also given us the opportunity to recognize and appreciate the blessings that we have. In Steamboat, we are so fortunate to live in a community that is passionate about giving back… while enjoying the great outdoors! Founded in 2006, STARS has been helping people with disabilities enjoy recreational activities and gain access to specialized equipment in the Yampa Valley for nearly two decades.

In 2008, STARS expanded their programs to include summer programming with day camps, sports leagues, overnight camps, and more. As an organization, STARS aims to use sports and recreation to teach self-confidence, and independence. STARS also offers scholarships to those kids and adults that have financial barriers preventing them from participating in sports and outdoor programs.

Since their founding, the fantastic team at STARS has served over 300 people with over 2,000 lessons and over 5,000 volunteer hours.

As such a huge part of our community, we are beyond excited that their annual cycling fundraiser will still be happening this year!

Biking the Boat and Beyond

September 19th through 27th

This fun event allows participants of all ages to raise money while getting out on their bicycle. Whether you like to hit the pavement on a road bike, take on the trails on a mountain bike, or simply cruise along the sidewalk, this event is for everyone! There is no minimum ride distance, which allows the most novice of bikers to participate.

Don’t worry! This year you don’t have to be in the Yampa Valley to participate, simply register with STARS and hit the pavement from your hometown.

All riders will log their rides on the free STRAVA app, this will also allow riders to connect with one another and share photos. For local riders, pick up your “Bike Box” prior to the start of the week, this box is loaded with a race bib, bicycle water bottle, Honeystinger snacks, and other surprises!

For more information on this event or to donate, please visit the STARS website.

Never ending fun in the Boat…

Summer has flown by here in Steamboat! Despite the persisting heat, it won’t be long until the Valley begins to cool and usher in the first signs of fall. Until then, the busy summer calendar continues with wonderful September events! We rounded up a few of our favorites.

Can’t Miss Events

Downtown Historical Walking Tour

Thursdays

Join The Tread of Pioneers Museum every Thursday in September for a historical walking tour of downtown Steamboat. This free event is a wonderful way to experience Steamboat in a whole new way.

Sidewalk Sale

September 4th through 7th

The perfect opportunity to get great summer deals and stock up on winter apparel and gear! All of our favorite downtown stores roll out racks of clothing, shoes, and so much more for by passers to peruse. We definitely recommend checking out Straightline Sports for winter gear or Ruby Jane for women and children apparel.

First Friday Artwalk

September 4th

A local favorite, First Friday Artwalk, continues this summer! Take a stroll through participating downtown galleries and see art from a variety of mediums. For art from local artists be sure to stop by Pine Moon Art Gallery on 9th.

Farmer’s Market

Saturdays

There are just a few Saturdays left to check out the Steamboat Farmer’s Market. This family favorite is a great way to kick off Saturday morning. Pick up fresh produce, baked goods, and cheeses for the weekend or stop by for lunch at one of the food trucks.

Family Stargazing

September 19th

Take a drive to Legacy Ranch for a magical evening of Stargazing! Hosted by Yampatika, join Colorado Mountain College Professor, Paul McCudden, for an astronomy lesson. There will be telescopes on site, be sure to pack your warm clothes!

Restaurant Week

September 25th through October 4th

Perhaps our favorite part of fall, Restaurant Week is the best time to try different cuisine around town and get a great deal! We are so fortunate to have so many incredible restaurants; it will be hard to choose where to go next! Helpful hint, if you are feeling adventurous we recommend doing appetizers at a few different places for a fun night out!

What a summer it has been so far in the Yampa Valley! The river is flowing, the wildflowers are in full bloom, and Steamboat has been bustling with visitors. We have experienced an increase in real estate interest and we are anticipating a busy fall as that is typically when buyers try to secure their home before the winter season.

As the winter 2019-20 season came to a rapid close, the real estate industry saw an astonishing 58.53% increase in gross volume of transactions in March over last year. Sticking with the usual trend, April can be a bit of a gamble for real estate sales, this year there was a significant decrease in gross dollar volume and number of transactions over April 2019. In May, the mountain area stole the show, accounting for 42.41% of the transactions for the month.

While our spring numbers were not as strong as they might have been, the traffic that we have seen this summer has us hopeful that our summer numbers will be up from last year. From what we have seen, the mountain region of Colorado has seen a surge in interest. As buyers realize the importance of having a home outside of the cities to escape to, we have seen a rise in demand.

While demand is on the rise, inventory in Steamboat has continued to decrease steadily since fall of last year.

The Porches Update

We have had the privilege of both our whole and fractional owners using more of their time at The Porches this summer. It has been wonderful to see their families enjoy their home and create lasting memories.

Our Porches family has also continued to grow with the closing of two whole ownership homes and one fractional share so far this summer. With only two developer homes left in our inventory, we anticipate that it will not be long until we are sold out.

March through May Numbers

$140,888,903 in gross dollar volume for March to May 2020.

238 total transactions from March to May 2020.

The mountain area has accounted for $51,212,432 in dollar volume transactions from March to May 2020.

Yet another tale of the Yampa Valley Curse…

Living in Steamboat, the stories are all the same, people move here looking for a new adventure and as the months and years go by, they just can’t seem to leave. For the brave few that do make it out, it isn’t long until they are drawn back by what the locals call the Yampa Valley Curse.

Jenna, The Porches concierge, is no exception to this age-old tale. After leaving Steamboat only to find herself back here a short time later she found her roots in the hospitality business and grew her passion for photography. In her short time here at The Porches, she has become an integral part of our Porches family and we couldn’t be luckier to have her.

Tell us about yourself:

Born and raised in Georgia I am the second to youngest of 5 children. I believe growing up in a big family helped with my sense of humor and patience. In 2006, I attended the University of South Carolina where I graduated with a BA in advertising and studio arts photography in 2010. Right as my life was getting off the ground, my Mother was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s – she was 56 years old.

I thank my lucky stars for my family support – I have 4 beautiful siblings from my Mother and we were in it together.

As we blazed a path into this uncharted territory, I realized how important photography is. While getting together with friends and family to capture the special life moments is incredibly thoughtful for those in the next generation. A defining moment came to me when me and my sisters were going through an old desk belonging to our mother. After prying a few drawers open – we found hundreds of photographs. As we looked through every single photo, it occurred to me how important this moment was and how I felt the need to share my photography with the world.

Memories fade quickly but when you can hold a photo in your hand and share it down through your family generations – that is truly special.

How did you end up in Steamboat?

In July of 2014, I decided to take a sabbatical from my life and try something new. I secured a job at The Motherwell Ranch outside Hayden, CO and packed my car and drove west. This was a seasonal job but I remember dreadfully counting down the days I had left in this special place. Once I arrived back in Georgia, I spent some precious moments with my family and bought a Subaru and came right back. I believe the Yampa Valley Curse is real and it called me home to Steamboat.

I met my partner Travis in 2016 and we have a photography business together – Garner&Co Photography. We truly enjoy sharing our photography with this community and plan to call Steamboat our forever home as we will build a house next year!

What do you love about living in Steamboat?

I love how simple life is here. The air is clean and the sun is always warm. There is so much to do and see right here in the Yampa Valley.

What kind of activities and hobbies do you enjoy?

I enjoy fly fishing, hiking and spending time with my dog. Our photography business keeps us pretty busy during the summer months with weddings and family portraits.

How has your Porches experience been?

My experience with the Porches has been truly excellent. Everyone I get to serve is here for the same reasons I am – they want to travel to our little slice of heaven and share in the joy this place breathes.

Jenna’s Recommendations:

Happy hour… Aurum has an excellent happy hour. You can grab a seat down by the beautiful Yampa River and enjoy the cool breeze.

Hiking… I enjoy a hike with a lot of bang for your buck. My favorite hike close to town is Mt. Werner. I enjoy starting at Thunderhead lift and hike up the road. The views from the gondola building are excellent.

Fly fishing… My favorite time to fish is in the spring. I enjoy floating the Yampa with my partner and dog. It is a really fun experience when the water is high!

The best part about this event is you and your family can venture down to Bald Eagle Lake to watch the launch, or find a nice spot to post up for the morning and watch the hot air balloons soar over the Yampa Valley.

A community staple for over two decades.

In the heart of Steamboat Springs, lies a place of tranquility, alive with the flowers, trees, and creatures of the Yampa Valley. Founded by Bob & Audrey Enever, The Yampa River Botanic Park, has been a Steamboat staple since its creation in 1995. What started as a horse pasture, became six acres of ponds and gardens, with over 50 gardens in total. Each garden is unique in its slope, sun exposure, soil, and plantings.

Through partnerships with local community organizations, the Yampa River Botanic Park hosts a multitude of programs for all ages from yoga to concerts to painting classes to theatre performances. Visitors can choose to partake in one of their many programs or simply take a stroll to admire and learn about the plants, flowers, trees and shrubs that are native to our valley. Be sure to stop and admire the Fairy Garden, a collection of tiny fairy houses created by local children in the annual Fairy Garden House Contest. With more than 35,000 visitors each year, it truly is a must-see attraction while visiting Steamboat Springs.

Today, the impeccable landscaping is maintained by both staff and an organization of volunteers. Whether you are you a skilled gardener or trying to learn, volunteering is a wonderful way to give back and learn something new. Completely funded by the generosity of members, donors, and grants, there are many ways to get involved and contribute to the continuation of the park.

During this time of distancing the Yampa River Botanic Park has been a place of solitude and escape for many. By keeping their gates open and encouraging socially distanced programs they’ve provided a haven to those looking to get outside and experience something new.

Favorite Programs and Events

Guided Walking Tours: Wednesdays and Sunday from 10am to 11:30am

Social Distant Gardening: Wednesdays, two shifts from 9am to 10:30am and 10:30am to 12pm

Yoga on the Green: Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 9am to 10am

Wildflowers and Watercolors: Wednesday August 5th at 11:30am

Music on the Green: Every other Friday morning at 10am

Inheriting a love for Steamboat, one generation at a time…

For one Texas family, Steamboat and The Porches, have become more than just a home away from home. For over two decades, the Becci family has been travelling to Steamboat to spend quality time together and take in the great outdoors. Over a decade ago they joined our Porches family and through the years, we have watched their daughters grow into young women, setting out on their own path, and beginning their own families.

It has become very clear that a love and passion for Steamboat and The Porches community is a legacy that is sure to live on from generation to generation. We caught up with the Becci’s oldest daughter, Meredith, to learn what this magical valley means to her as she begins bringing her own son here.

Tell us about your family…

My family lives in Houston and that is also where I grew up. My husband, Zack, is from Denver, and we have a one year old son, Benjamin. We enjoy going on walks, swimming in our pool, traveling and spending time in Colorado to hike, ski and fly fish.

What brought you to Steamboat?

I started coming to Steamboat with my family when I was a child. It was recommended to us as a great town for families with a ski mountain for all levels. My sister and I both learned how to ski in Steamboat and still love skiing here today.

What do you love about Steamboat? Activities that you enjoy?

Aside from being a ski mountain, Steamboat is an actual town. There is always so much to do. Whether it is the Winter Carnival, the Torchlight Parade or the Balloon Festival, there is always an event that I can enjoy with my family. During the winter, I like to go skiing, backcountry skiing, particularly, Steamboat PowderCats, and snow shoeing. During the summer, I love walking by the river, fly fishing, floating the river and just enjoying the beautiful weather.

What has The Porches and Steamboat meant to you? What do you hope it means to your son?

Both the Porches and Steamboat have always been a special place where my family gets together to spend time with one another, explore the outdoors and celebrate holidays and special occasions. Since we have been coming here for over 20 years, we have so many fun and happy memories. I got engaged and married in Steamboat, so it has an extra special place in my heart. For Benjamin, I hope it is a place where he is able to grow his love of the outdoors and the mountains and where he is able to have many fond memories for years to come. Lastly, I hope he loves skiing just as much as his parents and enjoys going fishing with my Dad (also known as Grandpa).

What do you enjoy about The Porches experience?

The people, the community, and feeling of home are a large part of what makes The Porches experience. The people are always friendly, we have got to know our neighbors, and it is definitely a place that my family calls home.

Recommendations:

Favorite restaurants: My list is long; Mambo Italiano, Ore House, Mahogany Ridge, Laundry, Creekside and Freshies. Too many! We love that Steamboat has so many great restaurants. During the summer, we like to have a drink or appetizer outside by the river at E3. We also like to walk up to mountain to Truffle Pig for dessert.

Favorite hikes or trails: During the summer, the Devil’s Causeway, Hahn’s Peak Trail and Spring Creek Trail are always fun. During the winter, my husband always wants to hike up the mountain on snow shoes. Last winter, he snowshoed up the mountain to Thunderhead with little Benjamin on his back while I skied. I am not sure that was the safest idea, but Benjamin loved it.
