Making the Most of Life at The Porches

BlogHalls

Like so many of The Porches owners, skiing is what first attracted the Halls to Steamboat but summer is what convinced them to stay. They tested the waters with six weeks of ownership at The Porches and eventually purchased a full ownership Porches home with a big porch and views of Mt. Werner. While they’re still avid skiers, this family of four loves fishing, tubing, and going to the rodeo. We caught up with Kelly to talk about why family (and two dogs) love calling The Porches their home away from home.

How did you discover Steamboat, and why did you decide to purchase a home here?
We first discovered Steamboat Springs about 21 years ago. We were invited to go skiing with some friends. Our friends eventually sold their place in Steamboat and we continued to come annually for skiing. Both of our kids learned to ski in the Steamboat Ski School. Every year during our visits in the winter, people would always say “you need to come in the summer”. So about six or seven years ago, we came back for a summer trip. We enjoyed it so much that before we left, we had a realtor searching for homes to buy.

Tell us a little about your family.

We are originally from the Houston area and still reside there. We have two kids: Wyatt, age 17, and Lily, age 13.  We also have two dogs: Stokes and Birdy. Our kid’s favorite activity is skiing. However, during the school year, Wyatt plays football and is very involved in other school activities. Lily is a cheerleader and is also involved in many other school activities.

Why did you choose The Porches? What do you like about living here?
When we were looking for homes in Steamboat, we probably looked at 10 different places. We narrowed our search to One Steamboat Place and The Porches. However, we settled on The Porches because of the family friendly neighborhood, the beautiful homes and the great staff that is always fun to be around.
What are some of your favorite Steamboat activities?
Our family really enjoys skiing in the winter. In the summer, the fishing, the rodeos, the tubing and the weather are second to none.
What are a few of your favorite Steamboat hot spots?
Our favorite restaurant is probably Low Country Kitchen. We enjoy John at One Stop Ski Shop for skiing stuff and tubing. But probably one of our favorite activities is entertaining friends at our home.
