The Johnston family settles in Steamboat…

Nearly two years ago we were fortunate to welcome the Johnstons to The Porches family. Today they divide their time between Steamboat and Dallas but while they’re in Steamboat Lance and AJ are the first to dive into all the fun that Steamboat to offer.

Tell us about your family…

Lance and I are retired and spend our time between Dallas, Steamboat and Cabo plus other vacation destinations here and there.  We do retirement well with lots of hobbies; skiing, hiking, golf, fly fishing, music, cooking, etc.

We have five kids ranging from the ages 21 to 25, and our two dogs.  The oldest is Parker who recently graduated from The University of Arkansas with a Business Degree. Next is our only girl, Briana, who recently graduated from Baylor University and rode for their Division 1 equestrian team that won nationals in 2019.  She is now headed into an accelerated nursing program at Baylor University. Joshua and Bennett are twins.  Josh attends George Washington University and has already accepted a job in DC when he graduates in May and will be pursuing his Masters.  Bennett will be graduating this spring from The University of Chicago with degrees in Physics and Applied Math.  He is deciding on which school to attend in the fall for his PhD.  Our youngest is Brandon and he attends The University of Arkansas pursuing a degree in Business.

What brought you to Steamboat?

It was always a dream to have a home at the base of a world-class ski mountain.  Lance grew up in Canada skiing and I endured the icy slopes of New England.  We have now lived in Dallas for many, many years but the mountains were calling. Our good friends and neighbors in The Big D have a picturesque ranch in Steamboat. After visiting them a couple times we decided to rent a home on the mountain for a month. Our love for Steamboat was locked in during that stay. We have lived here for almost two years now.

How did you find The Porches?

Our villa in Cabo San Lucas is part of The Registry Collection as is The Porches. I had seen The Porches was one of only two properties in Steamboat part of their consortium. When we saw the open house signs it was a “fait accompli” thanks to the incredibly welcoming Beth sitting at the agent desk.

What do you enjoy about The Porches experience so far?

We have already started to create wonderful memories with our family and friends thanks to the quality build, layout and location. The staff and the services make it easy to just come, relax and enjoy the view.
