More Improvements to Come to Steamboat

The 2018/19 ski season is upon us and with it comes exciting changes in Steamboat

Steamboat Springs is known for our Western heritage and small town charm. Located in a remote corner of Northwest Colorado off the I-70 corridor, Steamboat is a true destination resort without all the front range crowds of other resorts. The remoteness that makes Steamboat special also means it can be difficult to get here during the winter months. Now with non-stop flights to Steamboat Springs from 15 major airports across the country, visiting your home away from home just got a little easier.

Heading into our second season under Alterra Mountain Company’s ownership, we have already seen some remarkable improvements being made to Steamboat Ski Resort. And it’s only just the beginning; we rounded up some of the most recent changes to keep you in the know about your favorite mountain town.

The historic Arnold Barn finds a new home…

Built in 1928, the Arnold barn has been a part of Steamboat’s history for nearly 100 years. Over the years, the surrounding buildings were demolished until only the barn remained. In an effort to preserve this memento to Steamboat’s early agriculture days, efforts began to have the barn restored and moved to a new home. Located near the Meadows Parking Lot, the barn recently made its way to it’s new home at the base of Steamboat Ski Resort on Mount Werner Road and Mount Werner Circle. In its new home, the barn serves as a gateway to the ski area and a warm welcome to each person that visits.

A few changes to note this coming season…

When visiting the Steamboat Ski Resort this season, you’ll see that a new restaurant has come to the base area, Timber & Torch, previously the Bear River, it received a major overhaul this summer. Featuring an updated food and specialty cocktail menu along with additional outdoor and indoor seating, this is one of the biggest changes to the base this year. Timber & Torch is not the only dining change you’ll see this season, the Taco Beast, can be spotted around the mountain this year. A snowcat with food truck style dining, the Taco Beast will serve street style tacos slope side along with Mexican beers.

The Umbrella bar that was previously located in the base area has moved to the base of Rendezvous Lodge, where it will provide additional bar service and quick bites to skiers and riders.

What the future holds…

New terrain and lifts are coming to Steamboat! It was recently announced that Steamboat Resort has received final approval from the U.S Forest Service to add additional lifts and trails to the resort. Part of these improvements include; a new lift to access backcountry terrain at Pioneer Ridge, moving ski school to the Bashor Bowl area, a new gondola to Bashor Bowl from the base, additional snowmaking areas and new trails for ease of access. It is unclear right now when construction will begin on these projects, but we are excited nonetheless for the investments in our ski area.

We are looking forward to another amazing winter in Steamboat Springs and cannot wait to see what the future holds.

Getting to your Steamboat home has never been easier…
