As summer draws to a close and fall quickly approaches, the Steamboat event calendar doesn’t slow down.

After a warm and wonderful summer, the temperature is starting to cool in the Yampa Valley and there’s a feeling of fall in the air. Though summer may be coming to an end, the events in Steamboat certainly are not. Now is the perfect time to enjoy Steamboat and soak in the last bit of warmth before winter is upon us.


Can’t Miss Events:

Yampa Valley Crane Festival:

August 30th through September 2nd

Join the Colorado Crane Conservation Coalition at the 7th Annual Yampa Valley Crane Festival. This unique festival supports the conservation and protection of the Sandhill Cranes of Colorado. Returning each spring from their winter hideaways, these magnificent birds make the Yampa Valley their home throughout the summer months where they nest and raise their young.

 

Throughout the weekend, a variety of events will take place around Steamboat including; an aerial arts performance, educational programs, guided crane viewings, live music, and so much more.


Wild West Air Fest:

September 1st

For an experience like none other, head out to the Bob Adams Airport just North of town for a nationally renowned performance by the best pilots in the West. Their aerobatics and formations are sure to excite as they soar through the sky and put on a stellar show. For those of you looking to get a better view, plane rides are also available.

 

Rocky Mountain Bull Bash:

September 1st and 2nd

As the biggest bull-riding event of the summer, you won’t want to miss out on the Rocky Mountain Bull Bash. This thrilling experience brings together 40 of the best bull riders in the world to compete. Head down to the rodeo grounds early to enjoy some BBQ before the main event.

 

Steamboat Bike Festival

September 6th through the 9th

Celebrating our town’s love for bikes is Steamboat Bike Festival. This week offers something for every type of bike enthusiast with mountain bike trail rides, rides along country roads, or cruises down the Core Trail. Looking for something a little different? There will also be electric bike rides for those looking to explore the Yampa Valley with greater ease and efficiency. On Saturday night, be sure to cruise over to Gondola Square for a free bike-in movie.

 

Plein Air Festival

September 22nd through the 29th

It’s no secret that fall in the Yampa Valley is a can’t miss. As the weather begins to cool the entire Valley turns the most magnificent shades of gold, reds, and oranges. The gorgeous scenery, mixed with Steamboat’s hometown atmosphere, is what draws artists from all over for the Plein Air Festival.

Throughout the week, artists set up all around Steamboat to paint their surroundings. Each work of art is vastly different and captures a unique perspective of Steamboat. Be sure to attend the Quick Draw and Silent Auction event where artists are given a limited amount of time to paint what they see, followed by a catered lunch and an auction of their completed works.
