Longer days and warmer weather has everyone heading for the great outdoors…

Summertime in Steamboat means many things… tubing, hiking, and biking are some of the most popular that come to mind. Longer days and warmer weather also means that it is once again race season in the Yampa Valley. 5ks, half marathons, marathons, and countless other race opportunities brings together locals and visitors alike. There is nothing quite like the running community here in Steamboat. From the volunteers, to the sideline cheering section, to the runners themselves the excitement and feeling of camaraderie is in the air come race day. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned marathoner there is sure to be a race this coming season for you to enjoy.

Upcoming Races:

Steamboat Marathon:

June 2nd

Named one of the “Top 10 Destination Marathons in North America”, the annual Steamboat Marathon is one of the biggest events of the running season. Offering a marathon, half marathon, and 10k, this race takes runners along County Road 129. Over rolling hills, past green pastures, with the Rocky Mountains in the distance it’s surely one of the most scenic races of the year.

Howelsen Hill Trail Run

June 15th

The Howelsen Hill Trail Run offers runners the choice of either a 4 or 8 mile run. This challenging course takes runners on Howelsen’s single-track trails.

Partners Amazing Race

June 22nd

Hosted by the Partners of Routt County the 4th Annual Amazing Race is fun, challenging event that benefits the Partners of Routt County. In this race teams of two tackle challenges and obstacles while they tour around Steamboat from the mountain to Old Town.

Mountain Madness Run

June 30th

This 10k and half marathon is one of the oldest races in the Steamboat Running Series. Running along the Yampa River with beautiful views of the ski area this race is also one of the most popular.

Quarry Mt. Quest Adventure Race

June 30th

Supporting the Routt County Search and Rescue this adventure race involves trail running, tubing, and mountain biking to a series of checkpoints. The map of the race is released the morning of and racers are given 6 hours to collect as many checkpoints as they can. Whether you choose to work solo or in a team this race is designed to be both challenging as well as fun.

Hahn’s Peak Hill Climb

July 6th

What started as a tradition amongst a few North Routt locals the Hahn’s Peak Hill Climb was introduced to the Steamboat Running Series back in 2017. Ending at the summit of Hahn’s Peak this race offers views unlike any other.

Spring Creek Memorial Run

July 27th

This 9.5 mile race runs along iconic Spring Creek, a scenic route takes runners on single track, double track, and primitive trail. There is also a 5k and Kids Run available so the whole family can join.
