Elkhead Express: Twice the mountain in half the time.

A brand new high speed quad is up and running replacing the old fixed-grip quad and will increase the number—and the speed—of skiers coming out of the Priest Creek area. The new lift will cut the ride time in half from 5 minutes, 25 seconds to just 2 minutes, 40 seconds.

The Elkhead Express is the first new lift to be built at Steamboat Ski Area since Christy Express was installed in 2007. Rob Perlman, president and chief operating officer of Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation said the company is thrilled about its most recent addition. “We are very excited to replace our “fix-grabbed” quad with the new high-speed, detachable Elkhead Express,” Perlman said. “The lift services a key part of the mountain, and I think it’s an improvement that our guests are going to notice and appreciate.”

More new lift expansions are in the works

Future projects are in discussion with decisions expected to made by the end of 2017. The resort is working with the Forest Service to expand the current ski area boundary by adding 350 acres to the Pioneer Ridge area. Intrawest CEO Tom Marano has been tasked with developing the limited area that they own in Gondola Square. Conceptual plans are in the works at this time.

Mini golf course and roller coaster coming Summer 2017

Good news, kiddos! This summer, the Steamboat Ski Area will be expanding its summer offering for kids with a new mountain coaster and 18-hole miniature golf course near the base of the Christie Peak Express lift. “We will be installing a mountain coaster and a mini golf course at Steamboat in order to capitalize on the large number of guests that visit the Steamboat Springs area in the summer,” said Intrawest CEO Tom Marano. “With 30,000 to 40,000 visitors in the Steamboat area during peak summer weekends—a visitation base comparable to a winter weekend—we believe the addition of the coaster and mini golf to the existing activities will create a massive attraction to bring families currently visiting town to participate in revenue generating activities at the resort.”
